If you know my story, you know that a big part of my journey to being a successful influencer creator actor on Broadway was my decision to get sober. And I talk very openly about that journey of dealing with my addiction, but mostly not because I think that everyone has to get sober, right? It's that I think that success starts with learning how to be our best version of ourselves, striving to meet your potential and as many ways as possible. And that's why I'm super glad that I found best self best self is a company that creates journals that help you live your best life. They have a self journal, they have a best self planner, they have a hero's journal, they have a relationship journal, which is actually how Steven and I fell on it. for this video. If you see any of this video, I look a little bit like I'm ready for Halloween. Well, that's why, however, this episode isn't that scary. This episode is really going to be all about what I think is super important in understanding how to build your your brand and how to build your brand in a way that feels creative. So this podcast if you've never listened before, I'm Bret Shuford, I'm your host. And every week we released two episodes. The first episode is on Tuesdays we call that creativity Tuesday's where we focus on how to be more creative in expanding your network expanding your brand. And then on Thursdays we talked about how to become more visible within that creativity. So sometimes I you know, on Tuesdays, we'll talk a little bit about like the depths of our artistry or mindset, right, I'm just being a creative because everyone, no matter what you do, whether you're an entrepreneur, we all have been endowed with the ability to be a creator. So I think it's super important that we're constantly checking in with that innate part of us. So that we can learn to trust our instincts, trust our guts, and go for that. So I'm super glad you're here. And if you get a lot out of this episode, make sure you leave a review on whatever podcast platform you're listening to this on. And I'm featuring a new segment that I'm going to drop every episode which every Tuesday creativity Tuesday, I'm going to feature a creator that I think you should know about and follow. And then on Thursdays, we're going to talk about a visibility tool, something a software or an app, something that I think is really useful for you to get yourself out there and be seen. And today's creator of the week I'm obsessed with is Jeffrey Marsh. The Jeffrey Marsh is a non binary content creator on Instagram, I follow them on Instagram, I'm not sure they must be on Tik Tok, too. But I think they're such an amazing creator. Because when I am I swear to God, every single time Jeffrey's content falls into my feed, I feel like they are talking specifically to me. It's like they're reading my mind. They have been through my experience. And it's such a great lesson for what I try to teach here. And that's why I want you to go check out at the Jeffrey Marsh on Instagram because Jeffrey while you know, I know people who would probably who are more conservative who might look at Jeffrey and be like, Why is this person wearing makeup, they're so strong and who they are and so beautifully well spoken and so compassionate that it's such a great opportunity for anyone who's not been around anyone who's non binary or who hasn't had the experience of being around someone. It's to just start to put that in your feet start to see what that's like. But most importantly, as a creator Jeffrey's really mastered the art of knowing who their specific audience is, and every single piece of content. You'll notice they're using you as the person you're speaking to. They're not saying Hey, everyone, hey, hey y'all, right? They're saying you went through this experience and you are okay. And I love you and just speak so wholeheartedly to the person that they're serving. And I think no matter who you are, whether you're trying to be inspirational like Jeffrey or not, the more we can really think through the idea of speaking to one person and our content, speaking directly to the lens, speaking directly to the camera, whenever we're speaking to them, or just in our captions to just knowing who the person is on the other side of that, and Jeffrey is an expert at it, and I can't wait to tell me more. I'm, I've already paid for one of his their workshops. So I'm working on that to go follow the Jeffrey Marsh at the Jeffrey Marsh on Instagram. And check out their amazing stuff. Okay, now on to this episode, which is really all about creating your experience. The thing that I teach, preach, however you want to say it whenever you work with me or I have clients work with me is this idea that building a personal brand, or whatever you want to call it is just about creating an experience and you're creating an experience no matter what you do, right? This really came from my background of being an actor. When I first started acting, I would go to an audition. And I would think, Oh gosh, I just need them to like, I just need them to like me so that they'll hire me.
I need them to I need to prove myself, I need to show them I can do all these things that they're looking for, so that they'll hire me. And it was when I shifted that mindset of getting something from people, right, I need them to hire me to creating an experience for them. Right, no matter whether or not they saw what they needed to see specifically for that job. They would remember the experience I create. And that's true for whatever we do, right whenever you network or meet people, whenever you go to a grocery store, right? And you check out and the we've all seen people who create horrible experiences, and we remember those things, right? And then we remember the people people don't remember necessarily what you say, but they remember how you feel. I actually think that's an overcoat, right? They don't remember what you say, but they remember how you make them feel. And that's what we get to do every single day in our content. So what I teach and but I think is the best lens of this is the experience of going to Disneyland theme park. Right? The history of Disneyland if you've you can go back and listen to the my episode about Disneyland is a fascinating one. Because Walt Disney believed in this thing so wholeheartedly and yet people were not going to give him the money he needed and not fund him. But he still believed in it. Right. But the idea of a theme park, not an amusement park, right. The big difference is a theme park is that you're being immersed in stories, the architecture is a story, the music tells a story. And so they're creating an experience for you. And that's where I think you get to really break down what your experience is. And so for some of us, we may not know like, well, how are people experiencing me? How are people perceiving me? Well, that's number one where you should start go to the people who know you the best, right? Go to the people who love you and set up literally set up zoom calls with them, where you record them. And you ask them specific questions. Number one, you tell them why you're doing this, I really want to get a better lens of my strengths and what I bring to the table. And you're somebody I really trust and I want you to be open and honest with me. And ask them specifically, what are five things that you would if someone were to say to you, hey, tell me about Bret Shuford, what are the things he loves the most? What would those be right? Ask them that? What are five words you would use to describe me? What are five words you would use not to describe me? If you were to tell someone that Brett is an expert at this thing? What would you tell them? And then ask them like what do you wish for me? What do you wish my life would would have that it currently does not? And what do you think that my that people who work with me would say that that experience of hanging out with me is so ask people start there if you can get those questions like people will tell you instead of trying to figure it out on your own or look at analytics, go to the people who love and trust you the most and ask them what is the experience that I create for you see if it aligns with the experience that you want to create. You might be surprised you might be right on the nose. You might be like wait a second. I never even thought about that being the experience I want to create Alright, once you kind of have that idea, you're gonna start to see okay, my these five people that I interviewed all said these similar things. So take similar things right? Take the adjectives that match take the things and and start to notice the patterns. And then what you can do is you can go download the imposter to influencer map. It's totally free just go to imposter influencer map.com. And you can start to map out, okay, this is the experience I create. Or maybe this is the experience I want to create, I need to shift this. That's where I really start to apply the idea of the create method, which is starting with getting clarity. Okay, if I know what experience I want to create an experience I crave for people, who do I want to create that experience for? That's the see clarity, who'd want to create the experience for the RS research? Who's already creating experiences like that? Then we go to to E, which is we establish, okay, what are those people who are doing that were me like, where do I want to build my platform? What apps do I want to use? or social media platforms or websites or emails? Right? We kind of build that out, what do I want my logos and brands and things to look like that comes way after doing all this work? Right? How can I fit this into my time? Right? Do I need to hire people delegate? And then that's kind of where I'm at right in my business is delegating, bringing people on? And then lastly, how do I monetize that? So now that I have this idea, how can I build this out into monetization? So I hope this helps you take some take some time. Ask people if you're confused, hire a coach, work with someone who can help you get clear because ultimately, you don't have to do this alone. But you do have to do it. If you really want to get out there and be seen. Speaking of being seen, I will talk to you in the next episode. Thursday's visibility Thursdays.
