WORK WITH ME

You’re Right on Time

Human beings love to set goals. It provides a sense of direction and purpose for us, and gives us something to work towards. But, in addition to the benchmark or vision we set for ourselves, we also create an expiration date. We decide in our minds that if we don't achieve that goal by that specific time, we are a failure.

There are things we can control and impact with our actions, but time isn't one of them. It's the one thing we cannot get more of or take back once it has passed. Sometimes we're stressed about money, but you can always make more money. You can't make more time.

When you let go of this concept that we have to achieve a certain thing by a certain time, you start to understand that setting the goal is about moving us in the right direction. After that, it's up to God or the universe or whatever you believe to handle the outcome.

Here's the thing: You are right on time. All of the time.

I want you to hear that again.

You're right on time, all of the time.

My husband, Steven and I, decided three years ago we wanted to start a family. It has been a huge desire of us to become fathers and something, at times, we doubted we'd be able to do. But we've set the goal, and began to take the steps to start that process. And so far, the process has been long, exciting, scary, frustrating, and oftentimes uneventful. We've done a lot of waiting. It's been three years since we started that process and we have not been able to move forward.

We had a surrogate, who bailed on us. Then we found someone, a friend and angel, on this earth who volunteered to be a surrogate for us. We had everything lined up.

And then, pandemic happened.

The thing is, I know it's going to happen. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

I'm sure you can think of that one thing that you really want to do or achieve most in life.  I want you to ask yourself: how much do you believe that it's possible?

The hard lesson is that if you don't believe it's possible, then it's not going happen.

However, if you know in your heart that what you want is possible, then it doesn't matter how long it takes.

You have one job: take action every day to get there. There will always be resistance or obstacles to your goal - whether it's the pandemic, finances, family approval, societal oppression, self doubt...but don't let that stop you.

Give yourself creditCountless studies show that practicing gratitude increases our overall happiness, sense of wellbeing, and satisfaction with our lives. Reflect on what you have accomplished already and all the wonderful things that are already in your life. Let it fill you with warmth, joy and contentment. From this place, you can open yourself up to future victories.

Be mindful of what you feel when thinking about your vision. If you start to feel anxious or pressure building when you think of that Broadway show opening night, grant opportunity or green lit script you've been working tirelessly for, notice and let go. Relax into a feeling of trust and calm that everything will happen as it is meant time happen.

This is all easier said than done - but small steps add up in the big picture of life.

Trust the wait. Embrace the uncertainty. Enjoy the beauty of becoming.
