The Power of Consistency

Many of us tend to beat ourselves up over this, associating consistency with success. While consistency is undoubtedly important, we often hold ourselves back with limiting beliefs and comparisons to others. These beliefs grow stronger as we consume more content than we create, falling into the trap of what I call “compare and despair.” To overcome this, I encourage people to make social media and content creation a habit rather than a one-time event. By forming a habit, posting and creating content can become more natural, akin to brushing your teeth or working out. However, building habits takes time and effort. Growth is rarely easy. In this blog post, I aim to provide some guidance to help unlock these beliefs and set you on a path to progress. Let's delve into some of the ways we inadvertently hinder ourselves.

Defining Your Personal Brand

Perhaps you feel like you have nothing worth sharing, that your everyday life isn't interesting enough, or that you lack new ideas. Maybe you're striving for originality, seeing countless individuals creating unique content, and wondering how to stand out. On the other hand, you might find yourself sharing too much personal information and not enough about your business or the aspects you want people to associate with your personal brand. This is where defining your personal brand becomes crucial.

Focusing on Select Platforms

To make posting a habit, my first suggestion is to avoid spreading yourself too thin across multiple platforms. Trying to create content for every single platform often leads to burnout. Instead, give yourself permission to focus on just one or two platforms initially. Think about how you can dominate rather than dabble. Consider what you genuinely enjoy doing because consistency requires enjoyment. For instance, if you enjoy writing and being witty, Twitter might be your ideal platform. If you excel at video creation and photography, Instagram could be a great fit. Choose a platform that aligns with your interests and invest your efforts in becoming exceptional there. Here’s a hint: it’s the platform you spend the most time on.

Finding Your Voice

The second point to ponder is finding your voice. Look for inspiration from individuals, brands, and companies that inspire both you and your target audience. Don't be afraid to explore successful people in your niche and adapt what works for them into your own style. Remember, success leaves clues, and it's okay to draw inspiration from others. While giving credit is essential, gathering inspiration from successful individuals helps you discover your unique voice.

Establishing a Realistic Schedule

Next, establish a realistic schedule for yourself. Many social media experts, including myself, emphasize the importance of a consistent posting schedule. However, it's crucial to set a schedule that aligns with your other commitments and is feasible for you to maintain. If you can't post every day, commit to posting three days a week. Consistency is key to organically build a following and create a sense of authenticity.

Consider utilizing an editorial calendar or a rough plan for your content. While I prefer a more organic approach, having a loose plan is better than no plan. Explore events, holidays, and relevant topics for each month, which can inspire your content creation. By brainstorming around these dates, you can generate ideas that resonate with.

Consistency is a vital component of success on social media platforms. By challenging limiting beliefs, forming habits, defining your personal brand, focusing on select platforms, finding your voice, and establishing a realistic posting schedule, you can unlock your potential for growth and engagement. Remember, progress takes time and effort, but with dedication and perseverance, you can master consistency on social media and achieve your goals.
