Raise your hand if you endlessly see images or stories with Broadway people strapping on a weird contraption to their face like this. (image of Jessica Vosk steaming)
Taking care of your voice is vital for a long career on Broadway. As a singer no one can do that for you. When you dance you can go to a Physical Therapist, but as a singer prevention is vital. To prevent needing medication or vocal rest, get the inflammation down with steam.
Well, steam is supposed to be one of those things that helps settle the vocal chords, and get them nice a hydrated for singing. According to the Pure Mist website:
MyPurMist has re-invented steam delivery by providing germ free steam instantly without the presence of any boiling water. The instant fine mist penetrates deep into your sinuses, nose, and throat for superb relief. MyPurMist's soothing mist provides effective symptomatic relief of allergies, sinusitis, colds/flu, cough, laryngitis, parched throat, and discomfort from sore throat.

Why is this different from a humidifier? MyPurmist goes directly to your throat to help alleviate any symptoms. I wanted to give this thing a try (it ain’t cheap) to see if it really makes a difference.
You see, I suffer from a little bit of post nasal drip and acid reflux. On some days I feel as though I am constantly clearing my throat. One of the things my voice teacher always said was steam, so I would just take a long shower. First off, I would run out of steam, second, I don’t always want to take a shower.
Since I’ve gotten the MyPurMist I can sit and steam wirelessly and in my clothes. It’s a miracle!
It requires only distilled water, and since it’s such a costly investment I encourage you buy it. You can purchase them at Amazon and at Walgreens.
